Background:
Founded in 1877, the school is set in a fast developing and populous area on the outskirts of Omagh. Work will begin on a new building which will accommodate 410 pupils and a nursery with 52 part-time places in January 2001. Completion is planned for 2003. As well as delivering the Northern Ireland curriculum, the school endeavours to develop other gifts and talents amongst the pupils by providing opportunities to engage in drama, school choir, recorder, violin, tin whistle tuition, football, hurling, swimming and netball. The school provides club activities on a Friday afternoon and after-school activities including gymnastics and dance on Mondays and Tuesdays. Awards include first place in BBC Northern Ireland's Making a Difference, gold and silver awards in Industry Matters, local festival cup for harmonised choirs, local schools cup for football. The school has been involved in the Investors in People project and has applied for assessment in November 2000 for this charter mark. The school has a Visionary Guiding Framework which includes eight School Aims with a Mission Statement and a school Vision Statement. The school Vision Statement underpins the vision for the school: 'Through positive and enriching experiences we continue improving towards full potential.' .
